Somewhere this week, a podium said something with a perfectly straight face, and somewhere else a fact-checker quietly put an ice pack on their wrist. I am not going to repeat the line (you heard it, you blinked, you laughed a beat later than you wanted to). I am just going to tell you what we did about it: we made shirts.
A whole drop of them just went live, and every one walked straight into The Spin Room ~ the collection we keep for the gap between what was said and what actually happened. That gap has been widening for years. We figured it deserved its own wardrobe.
What walked in
These are for the person who reads past the headline (yes, we made a shirt teasing the people who do not... it is called Only Reading the Headlines, and it knows exactly who it is for). They are for the resistance shopper who would rather raise an eyebrow than raise their voice, the satire lover who has learned that the sharpest thing you can do to theatrics is describe them accurately. You do not yell at the television. You just look at it the way you would look at a cabinet from IKEA that arrived missing three screws and a leg.
A few of the names now hanging in the room:
- Unimpressed by Alternative Facts ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Protect the Archives ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Lies Damned Lies and Briefings ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Believe the Receipts ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Half Tan Half Tall Tale ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Reading Is Resistance ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- The Historians Are Watching ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Tax the Golf Course ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- No Kings No Clowns ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
- Veritas Odit Moras ~ Everyday Supersoft T-Shirt
That last one is Latin for truth hates delay, which is either a motto or a subtweet depending on the week. There is also Please Take Him With You, Investigate Report Publish, Not Above the Law Either, When the Facts Come Out, and more in the same spirit... the drop goes deeper than this list, and the rest is waiting where the links below lead. Every design does the same quiet work: it says the thing so you do not have to, in a font the whole room can read.
Where to find them
The entire arrival is sitting together in New Tees Just In if you want to browse the drop as a drop. They have also settled in with the rest of the family in All Soft-Style T-Shirts and All Apparel, and of course they live permanently in The Spin Room, which is the only spin room in existence where the spin is the joke instead of the job.
Why does this collection exist at all? Because the briefing-industrial complex shows no sign of slowing down, and laughter travels further than a lecture. The point was never to preach. The point is that someone across the coffee shop reads your chest, snorts into their latte, and remembers that the truth was supposed to matter. Make lying wrong again.
Orange you glad this is satire?
